Table Rows and Column ID

Post by Craig Smith »

Stupid question....
Looking at the Spark base table for A9L and GUFB.
What the row lables
Column Labels look like RPM but it only goes to 4,000

This is correct, presumably Ford found that above 4k rpm the ecu was using the WOT spark tables and therefore there was no need for the part throttle tables to be mapped any higher.

what do the rows represent?
TPS? It looks backwards
75 at the top?
ok row 75, column 500
500 is RPM
if 75 is TP, 75 relates to what, 25% open?
I am confused, can you tell?

The rows in the main spark tables are LOAD, viewing the graph is a quick way to see the label axes.

nother little note about tuning on the 5.0, Thursday I get a call from my son, he's broke down on the side of the road.
He tells me the car is poping back and will not accelerate.
My first thought was a timming chain jump or a problem with my recent chip burn. thought I may have added spark and blew a piston or something.
I drove over to him and asked him to turn on the ignition, pump is raising a ruckus!
Looked at the pressure guage on the fule rail and it had 15 lbs.
So, off to the parts guy, we got a BBK 155LPH.
Car is in the drive, jacked up in the rear waiting on me to crawl under and remove the tank.
Got lucky in one respect, he had less than an 1/8th of a tank of gas in it.
Got most of the gas out last night
Now to drop the taqnk without blowing up the neighborhood!

Load,
500 rpm, 75 load, spark is at 10 degrees.
500 rmp, 5 load, spark is at 28 degrees

Man, this seems backwards to me

Here is the table
10.00 10.00 10.00 12.00 13.00 15.25 18.75 19.00 19.00 18.75
10.00 10.00 10.00 12.00 13.00 15.00 19.00 19.00 19.00 19.00
10.00 10.00 10.50 12.00 14.00 18.00 23.00 23.00 23.00 23.00
14.00 14.00 14.50 15.00 17.00 22.00 28.00 28.00 28.00 28.00
20.00 21.00 20.50 25.00 32.00 33.00 32.75 33.25 33.00 32.50
25.00 26.00 31.00 34.50 35.25 35.25 35.25 35.25 35.00 34.25
28.00 28.00 28.50 32.00 34.00 35.00 35.00 35.00 35.00 33.50
28.00 28.00 28.50 32.00 34.00 35.00 35.00 35.00 35.00 35.00

As LOAD (volumetric efficiency) rises the amount of spark advance decreases which is what you would expect because the burn rate is slower at low loads.

Well I knew that, why couldn't I see it????
Need more coffee.

Does the table look like a good start?
I didn't change it very much.
First try and all.

Or less :D

It's very hard to tell what's right or wrong for your engine, it's a case of trying things a bit at a time, checking for knock and just seeing how it all goes.

I should have my stuff back from Craig Monday.
Today is wrestling day with the tank.
I have been spending more time on this Mustang than I have with my own toy.
I really love this challenge, the old days of a couple wrenches, a timming light and a three foot rubber hose to listen through are gone!
I like it, don't know much about it but I'm getting there.
That is, with your help!
Dex, thanks again, I'd be stuck without your help!
If you were here in the States, I'd buy you a few pints and a nice steak!

Got the Stang fixed today.
Not that bad of a job.
Put in a BBK 155 lph pump in it.
Now when I get my Ostrich back I can start to play again
Hardest part was getting the pressure line loose, my little tool just didn't want to make the lock let go!

A few choice words and I scared it enough for it to finally let go!
