find revlimiter with trace

Post by paulserk »

Hi friends,

I know from EVC (Winols) emulators, that the revlimiter can be find with adress-tracing (bring engine into the limiter and limiter-adress will blinking).

Is Ostrich 2 also fast enaugh to find rev-limiter in the data (with adress-hit-tracing window ?) ?

Cheers

Paul

rev limit will be 1 byte or dual byte value, and you will be looking for it within 32,000 or 64,000 byte software, it is like looking for needle in the hay stack.

You can't just find rev limit. Code has to be dissasembled and coder has to find rev limiting value or you just simply buy tuned chip and compare it to stock and thats how you find out.

Often ECU depending values like rev limit are read into faster RAM then checked by the running program so the ROM tracing wont help at all, in this case trying to find a non existant needle in a haystack.

HOWEVER..... most ROM's have an area that is only used for map values, often grouped by type i.e. ignition, fuel, compensations etc if you have identified an ignition map and there are a few small mapsaround it you could create a table of that area and address trace them you may be lucky !
