i dont know if it has anything to do with it but i did have to replace the ecm awhile back because the solder joints were bad. i dont know if i would have gotten back the same ecm number or not but at the parts store they said it was number 1227748 so i dont believe it is a different ecm, gonna keep trying to change the delay in the pause command and see if anything changes

What ADX file are you using?

What is the year, make, model, engine size of your car? MPFI or TBI?

i have been using the 70.ads file that was in the definitions and it is a 1988 chevy celebrity 2.5l TBI, its an iron duke. i am not having problems connecting but all the data i get is bad and nothing seems to change even with the car just on or if the car is running, but i havent had much time to do a lot of work with different settings because my car is usually out with my fiance

There's a bunch of differant masks for the ECM. $70 is for a 1990. I think your's is $48?

Go to this link and download the TunerPro Lookup Excel spreadsheet and see if you can identify your car. Then we can probably find the right ADS file for TunerPro V4 and ADX for V5.

48.ads and 48adx are the same thing. ads is for TPV4 and adx is for TPV5.

still getting the same problem as before and i installed v4 and tried that and i was getting packet errors that i was not getting in v5, also when i test the cable using the built in tester, it says everything is fine until it is plugged in, then it says that it isnt functioning / it cant find it if that means anything

when i test the able it only says that it is not functioning / cant be found only when both pins are plugged in and it says that its fine when only 1 of the 2 are plugged in and it doesn't matter which one it is. it also says that it isn't functioning when both pins are touching each other

Did you look over that chart and check engine RPO code and vin letter to make sure $48 is correct?

TunerPro should find cable plugged in and not connected. If not try another USB port and reopen TP and try. USB ports move around.

Is COM port set correctly in PC to match TP?

i did check everything over and everything is set correctly but i did manage to get some kind of info working. the rpms did increase when i tried actually turning the car on and reving it but a lot of the other data points were still wonky, i also changed the com port from 4 to 33 so i dont know if that might have helped or not, gonna keep trying different stuff

is the fact that it isnt the original ecm that it might be giving me problems. i had to get a replacement from advanced autoparts and just had to swap out the eprom, but i dont know if its possible that it is using a different mask than the original

Mask goes with the chip. If car is driving OK then I would guess you got the correct ECM.

It's just the number on the sticker that identifys the ECM. I doubt that is the data log issue.

That data stream needs a 10k resister, some need 10K to start transmitting data and others need it on all the time. Have you been using the 10k resister applied in the cable?

Sounds like you built the cable so I'm not sure? My cable I just flip a switch for 10k

The ALDL file says something strange and I've never dealt with before.
DATA PIN: READ DATA ON PIN "L"/"M" OF ALDL CONNECTOR
I don't know what pin L is for? May want to try it.

But your data seems to have a common glitch. I'm emailing you back the same ADX file with known cures for ads to TunerPro V5 adx files, give it a shot. If still glitchy just click disconnect in TP and reconnect.

They make good cables so follow instructions.

This is the cable I have and should also work for you, just move the jumper for 10K

i tried it, it didnt seem to help, in fact it seemed worse so i unplugged it then plugged it back in again, then the cable started making my cursor freak-out, so i think it might be a problem with interference either from the mouse, or software for it, so im going to try my brothers laptop, i already have everything all installed so it wont take any time at all to try it

I don't think that is correct from the directions of that cable.
Either the OBD1 pin or OBD2 pin must be
plugged into the serial data pin location on your
vehicles ALDL connector. Only one pin gets
plugged in, but not both. On the standard 12 pin
connector, serial data flows through one pin
from your ECM/PCM to your PC computer.
Generally GM cars that use pin E or pin D are
communicating at 160 baud speed, and the cars
using pin M are communicating at 8192 baud.

Looked like you use the 10K between A and B and only hook up one wire to pin M. You had it right but included ground which is fo another ALDL circut...

moved the page to the GM section of the forum.

if you don't have the ground wire hooked up, i'm fairly certain the cable won't work at all.

i did get a much better stream using the A027 definition file than i have ever gotten and now the data seems to be much more reliable and might just need to tweak the timing a bit to get a little better but i would say its at about 70-80% good data now

1988 2.5L DATA STREAM READ PROBLEMS

Post by billgraves »

Hello,
I worked for GM and at one point I worked on buy backs and then did the Tech-1., As I read this I remember this CAR. GM issued a PROM Update for spark knock OR Hot Fuel handling with a new Fuel Pump or something. Anyway when you used the TECH-1 or Tech-1A you had to TELL THE TECH-1 the CAR was a 1989 or 1990 model year. What they did was FIX THE PROBLEM IN 1990 PRODUCTION and Then go back and re-issue the PROM or Calibration (which included software on the back half of the chip) for a SERVICE RELEASE.
I Fixed the TECH-1 in the 91 ECM cartridge by having the data stream read a bit and automatically SWITCH to the RIGHT 2.5L 4 cyl. DATA STREAM or model year and engine code to correctly read the items for the Technician.
I don't remember if the Bulletin had a STICKER on the Front Shock Tower or not. It could have had something on in the engine compartment.

Another Tech-1 you might run across is:
The 1991, 1992, 1993 Lumina or W-Cars that had a 60 degree V-6 had the same thing I did in Tech-1. Some had stalling and the PROM had the technician install a CLUTCH SWITCH and the NEXT MODEL YEAR PROM/SOFTWARE and the TECH-1 Did an AUTO SWITCH to the right year select based on a Data Stream BIT. I had Dean Hilky's group of the 60 degree V-6, put a BIT in the Data stream in the software for me. That's why the Tech-1 will Auto switch to the right reading and display of the data for the Tech-1. (The aftermarket scan tools hated me for this kind of stuff. That is why the Tech-2 only went back to 1990. The T-2 could not correctly over right the data stream in a 1989 F or Y cars) .
I hope this will help ya.
