New User E34 BMW w/ Motronic 1.3 179 DME...

I just ordered an ostrich 2.0 and have been playing with tunerpro in hopes that I can play around with my 535i a bit, and eventually tune for boost.

I see that the definition for this ECU the low load fuel maps only go to 50% and 6200 RPM and the high load fuel maps only go to 36% and 5200 RPM.

and with the ignition maps both only go to 36% and the high end of the RPM range is the opposite... Low load goes to 5200 and High Load goes to 6200.

Is this normal?

once beyond the parameters of the map does it just extrapolate or round down to the last cell? or does it switch to the WOT map?

Also... the rev limit is "151" how does that correlate to RPM?

thank you in advance for any answers you can provide to this noob!

rpm and load scales are estemated and you can change them, they are to give an idea where you tune, you got map tracing so that should not be problem. RPM adjustment is explained when you right click it and chose change parameters it will explain how to raise rev limit.

ah OK I see it now. so maybe the stock ECU with the stock engine just doesnt see more than 36% load??

So for example, if I changed the "Fuel High Load Map 1" (which has the same RPM for the top 3 values for some reason?) from:

10% 16% 20% 26% 30% 36%
5200
5200
5200
4800
4500
4200
3800
3200
2800
2600
2200
1800
1200
0800

to something with a higher max RPM on the map and a higher load % like this:

10% 25% 40% 55% 70% 85%
7000
6500
6000
5500
5000
4500
4000
3500
3000
2500
2000
1500
1000
0500

would this be recognizeable by the ECU? or is it not that simple to change the scale of the maps?

As I mentioned, I am very new to this, so I dont know how capable the program and the ECU are, and what is required on my part.

also... can I use the 173 XDF and Bin file in a 179 DME?

I know the maps will be off, but the 173 definition seems much more complete and has more support...

I assume you can because I have head of people putting a stock M20 (173 DME) in an M30 (179 DME) car and it would start and run... not very well, but it did work...

No it will not work this way. The ECU's are similar, maybe identical (because both Motronic 1.3), but the software is different (maps size and location, their axis values, constants, etc).
Anyway, in my opinion M30 engine management and boost are not friends.
You want either piggyback computer with additional fuel injectors. Or FMU aka rising rate FPR setup. Or some MAF/MAP conversion (with lots of headache). Or finaly stand-alone ECU.

well right now I am still N/A and probably wont be setup for boost for a while, I just want to learn a bit right now.

I may end up still using an FMU/rising rate FPR and just use tunerpro and the ostrich to tweak the timing if I get some detonation under boost at certain RPMs.

The 173 and 179 ecus are the same but the software is different.

you will never be able to tune correctly with that XDF. It's nowhere near correct

NEVER USE A RRFPR . I have seen fuel leaks, fires, and injector failure

Get yourself a set of bigger injectors

A proper full XDF for the 535. PM for details

BMWconnect I see you made a XDF including all existing maps, there is no point of doing that, it makes it more complex for tuner. That is because some of the maps ECU will never use so there is no point of having them. I authored most of XDF files on this website
