Pulled the cable apart. Resoldered and replaced the transistor again. Between base and collector I see spikes from 0-3.8V showing data xfer. CAble test does not pass regardless if it's hooked up or not to the laptop..USB to serial adapter, straight to serial port,,etc. Never passes even with no cable.

I have not plugged the cable into the serial port and ran the test in TP..I can do that. Nobody near here with a cable though..Let you know shortly.
