Hi Guys,

please forgive what to you must be obvious questions...

Done some searching, cant find clear answers...so here I am.

Have a 1987 Corvette.
Have the moates CABL1 and XtremeALDL and used sucessfully with Datamaster, but new laptop means I lost everything...

Datamaster wont do what I want, so I downloaded TunerPro RT

it apparently wants a "BIN" - no idea what that is, or where to get it (or even why I need it)

It also wants a "XDF" - no idea what that is, where to get , or why?

Once, I have that, the next questions will be how to set up..
Datamaster had a generic data display for all parameters...am I correct Tuerpro doesnt?

Thanks

Bin = the calibration or tune itself, usually pulled directly from the calpak in your ECM, but given the year and make of your car, you can almost certainly find it for download on the Internet. There should be a silver sticker on the top of the calpak when you open the little door on your ECM and pop of the (usually blue) cover of your calpak. That sticker will have the BCC (Broadcast) code that identifies your tune. Mine, for example, is "ANZA". With that, you can download your bin.

The XDF is the definition file that tells TunerPro how to interpret and display the tune information.

The ADX or ADS file tells TunerPro how to communicate with the vehicle over the diagnostics line.

You don't need a bin or XDF if you're only going to scan the vehicle. For scanning, you need an ADX file. TunerPro includes "1227165_6e.ads" in the install. That ADS can be imported to ADX format (Acquisition menu, import). It will also work with your vehicle.

You have a 1227165 ECM, but your car runs the "$32b" mask, whereas my '89 runs $6E.

Hopefully that gives you more to search on.

Mangus,

thanks so much.

I'm still having problems, so apologies if this is tedious :/

I've read the help...

Seems to me, best to take baby steps :)

So just to communicate with the ECM and see what's happening as it's running (i.e. scan), the HELP says
To begin acquiring vehicle datastream information

1) Be sure your cable and/or hardware is attached and properly configured in preferences.
2) Open the ADX definition file for your vehicle and hardware via the menu: Acquisition->Load Defintiion File.
3) From the Acquisition menu, select "Start/Stop Data Scan"

At Step 2, it takes me to the "TunerPro RT" directory and the only thing in that Directory is a sub folder labelled "Sounds"

There is no file/vehicle to choose from???
If I choose *.BIN files, there are none
If I choose *.ADX files, there are none
If I choose *.ADS files, there are none
If I choose *.XDF files, there are none

What am I doing wrong or have I done wrong?

Download the files that you need first. www.tunerpro.net/downloadbindefs.htm.

Why do Corvette ECM's before 89 but after 85 also need to use the 160 baud rate definition file?? Makes no sense to me... they are capable of 8192 baud rate also!
