I have taken on the task of tuning a '91 240SX with a Calum ECU. Just getting connected has become a headache.
The tutorial that I found looked like it was going to be helpful until I realized the author hadn't completed it. http://www.sr20forum.com/realtime-ecu-s ... prort.html
Does anyone have a quick rundown of what needs to be done for me to tune this thing in real time?
Any help would be appreciated.

What are the part numbers on the sticker on the ECU?
What Calum daughter board is in the ECU?

The owner bought the ECU second hand so he doesn't know for sure which daughterboard it is. The #'s on the sticker are:
28
A11-B44 G70
1725
Can you at least tell me if I need a consult software and an ALDL cable to be able to see where in the tables the car is operating?
My "real time" tuning experience is limitied to Electromotive TEC3 and MOTEC. In those systems, the cell is highlighted in the tuning software tables for the current operating condition. You change the value in the highlighted cell and see immediate change in performance. Once that cell is dialed in, change throttle position, rinse and repeat.
Thanks for the response!

A11-B44 G70 is for US 91-94 240sx with KA24DE and manual trans. You will need a consult adapter cable for data logging using consult, however TunerPro RT does not support the consult protocol. There are programs available, such as "Nissan DataScan" which use the consult protocol, however this won't provide map tracing, which is what you're looking for. Check out www.tunercode.com to see if that interests you.

I'm still unsure of which daughterboard it is. What's the easiest way to determine that?
I've managed to get the appropriate drivers loaded and was able to connect with the free version of DataScan. If I'm not mistaken, I should be able to run a consult and TPRT on the same USB cable using the VCP driver assigned to 2 different COM ports. Does that make sense?
Can you explain the benefits of "map tracing?"
Thanks again.

Take the top cover off the ECU and see if you can identify it. If not, post a pic and I can tell what it is.
I need to know if you have a realtime daughter board.
Map tracing is what you described as "the cell is highlighted in the tuning software tables for the current operating condition"

I can say with 99% certainty that it's a Realtime board. TPRT connects and recognizes a Romulator. The owner assured me that it's a CalumSult Realtime daugherboard.
The owner also already purchased DataScan. I see a map tracing option. Are you saying it isn't supported for this application? I'm not at the shop right now. I'll be there tomorrow evening and will have more definitive answers to your questions, as well as mine I hope
. I wish you had caught me 2 hours ago when I was there with the car.
Cheers,
Brad

Ok, now on to the next hurdle. I have the Map Tracing function working properly now so I attempted to make some changes to the fueling.
The problem that I'm having is that when I go to the corresponding Primary Fuel table in TunerPro I am seeing no effect from my changes. I've shifted the entire table by 10% and the WBO2 doesn't change.
TunerProRT says that it's connected to the Romulator and "Emulating" is in green after I initiate it. I thought maybe my problem stemmed from not pressing "Update" after I changed the table. I tried it and it said "Upload Failed." Then I figured it failed because the car was running.
Datascan seems to work well. I can change fueling with "Active Test."
I also tried EmUtility. It connects to the Romulator but I get "FAILURE: Cannot read 0 bytes" when I read the bin to a file.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Brad

There may be a problem with your XDF file where the fuel map address is incorrect.
You must press "Update" after making changes while emulating in order for the change to be sent to the ECU. It doesn't matter if the engine is running.
