Setting up ALDL questions.

Post by uglykid »

Greetings,

As I'm digging in and learning Tunerpro, I'm appreciative of its capabilities. But there's something I seem to be missing.

First off, a couple of you guys may recognize me from around, but those who don't, I'm working on a Snowmobile ECU. So I essentially started at zero.

After quite a bit of playing around, I managed to create an XDF to cover the 16 maps located in the rom, and now have my sled emulating.

For the next step, I'm trying to figure out how to log the ECU, as well. I know that my emulator won't log, but I do have a logging device attached to the ECU and to my lappy.

I know that it requires setting up an ADS file, and after a little tinkering around with an existing ADS file I managed to suddenly get tuner pro to see an ALDL connected, and tell it to log.

The problem is, that it's not really logging anything. And that's because it's not actually seeing my logger, as I can unplug the logger from the PC and it is still "detected" and logging.

I looked around for where to set the ALDL port, but can't seem to find it. (the emu shows up on (USB) COM3 and the logger on (USB) COM4)

For reference, the logger I'm using is called the "select monitor" which connects directly to a logging port on the wiring harness, and is an bastard brother of the select monitor used on Subaru's.

Any ideas? Or am I pissing up a rope because it's not supported?

Com port set-up for logging is under Tools>Preferences>ALDL/Emulation.

Thanks! I spent 2 hours Saturday going through every menu I could find, and I'd swear I checked there. (too bad ALDL stuff doesn't show up under "auto-detect" like the emu hardware does.. ;))

Anyway, I'll try that this afternoon when I head out there again, and see if it works... (I know the com port will, it's the other settings I'm unsure of)

Peace~

Ok, that got me to the right port, but still no communication with the logger...

It fails the 'test communication', and experimenting with the logging monitors, it doesn't show data returned unless I unplug the device.

I exported the captures to csv, and one had 0,0,0,0,0,-40,-40, etc,etc.... Another had some confusing babble, but nothing that showed it was getting data from the logger.

I tried several sampling rates.

Is there any way to change it from 8k (8192) baud?

There is no way to change the baud rate in TP RT V4.14, other than selecting 160 baud, for the older GM ECMs.

Scanner Pro does have definable baud rates, which may be what you will need to try.

With Scanner Pro having this selectable rate, that means that TP RT V5 will have it as well, I can't see any reason why Mark would remove that ability. No word on when V5 will be out, just mentioning it so that you know in the future it will be combined into one program.

After getting an adx file to work with ScannerPro and my logger, will TunerPro 5 import it or will it require creating the file all over again?

Only Mark can answer that for sure.

I wish I could answer with more certainty, but there's not a lot of details available for V5, just that it's coming and will combine the features of Scanner Pro with Tuner Pro (RT) V4.14.
