Newbie Question

Post by brown200962 »

Hey Guys;
Just a newbie question, I am trying to connect to a 1989 350 TPI motor through the 1227165 ECM using TunerPro RT 5.0. I load the bin file that I downloaded for the $6e mask and the XDF and with an ALDL cable am able to make a connection using a downloaded 1227165_160 ADX. But no data ever crosses the link. I have tried creating a pause for silence (50ms) command which does not work, I am wondering about the 160 Baud rate of the file and if it, the adx should be communicating at 8192 baud? Any suggestions would be great.

Although your ECM does output 160 baud as well, use the 6E ADX file (included in the download), which operates at 8192. Also, don't forget to place the 10k resistor across terminals A and B on the ALDL connector; this is required for connection. Your cable may have a switch for this built in, depending on the maker.

Mangus; Thanks for the note I appreciate it!
The cable does have a set of jumpers on it, for the 10k resistor between A and B. It won't talk to the ECM or vice versa regardless of the jumper setting. When I do get something across the calbe it appears to be nulls? -40 for all temps. TPS show 0.0 volts, 0.0 volts for 02 sensor, etc. etc. I wonder if I should try another ECM, as I heard on the ThirdGen boards the 1227165 is kind of iffy in the connection dept. I have tried using Winadl software with very little success. I have gotten a grand total of three connections using Winadl since November 12, 2012. I don't trust the data I got as the BLM counts for those datalogs all showed 151, which I think means the engine is running lean at idle (approx. 900 rpm), but black smoke is pooring out the exhasut pipe and smells like raw fuel and the plugs show sooty black fouling (rich). At, idle (operating temp.) how does the ECM add fuel in $6e tune? Open or closed loop and how do I tell?

Sounds like you're in limp home mode. Is the SES light on when the car is running?
