85 Corvette timing advance data missing

Post by Carvette »

I recently bought a USB ALDL cable from Red Devil. Tim is a great guy and very helpful, goes above and beyond providing the cable. I have two questions: 1. Why doesn't spark advance show up with all the other data? The cable uses a resistor connected to pin B and puts the car in test mode. 2. Why is my BLM staying between 150and 160 with Integrator numbers between 129-133? O2 sensor fluctuates between lean and rich as it is supposed to every couple seconds.

The main problem is that the car hesitates very badly when cold and has poor snap throttle response when warm. Spraying starter fluid restores crisp throttle response.

Work Done:
New fuel pump with regulator set to 42 psi with vacuum applied.
New Coil, Cap, Rotor, Ignition Module (in cap), Plugs, Wires.
Reman Mass Airflow (replaced three times).
New Throttle Position Sensor (replaced twice). Set to .54 volts per GM procedure.
New Intake Manifold Gaskets.
Brand New Multec 22lb injectors.
New 180 degree thermostat.
New NTK Narrow Band O2 sensor.
Replaced PCM and put old one back in as problem persisted.
Cleaned throttle body and verified Idle Air Control Servo Motor operation.
Set timing to 6 degrees BTC, with spark advance wire disconnected and after setting Base Idle to 550 RPM with IAC fully extended and disconnected.

This problem has defies three mechanics in specialty shops that restore vehicles. No vacuum leaks can be found. I also put in a HYPERTECH Chip, it improves throttle response but caused lots of detonation under load with 93 octane gas. EGR is functioning as normal. Interestingly Hypertech gave me the number for the guy who developed the chip, his name is Lee and has a company Motorvision I believe. He will do custom chip for 150.

if spark advance isn't showing up in the datastream, there's a pretty good chance that the calibration wasn't setup to display it from the factory.

you could have the BIN setup to transmit SA, but you would have to remove another item in the stream to put in place of it.
