Getting 8192 Baud with 1986 1227165

Post by gribov42 »

Hi everyone -
New to TunerPro as well as owning a 1986 Corvette. I'm hoping to get connecting for basic data streaming and fault code viewing for now, and having a lot of confusion - Half the forum posts I read say "1986 can do 160 or 8192 baud" while some places say it can only do 160.

On the TunerPro page for GM files it shows for "A028" that it's "160/8192 BAUD, PIN E, USE A 10K, SEE A028 FOR MORE INFO"... But the file is missing.

On the TunerPro page for Bin/Datastream files, it shows separate files for 1896, 7-8, and 1989. '89 is the only year that shows the "6E" datastream which is set for 8192 baud, while the others use the "160" ads file which only supports 160 baud.

I've also seen numerous forum posts which hint that it's possible to get 8192. This one says to "update the PROM to 1989" with no further instructions. This one says to " to send a 160baud request, then send a 8192 request to connect at a 8192 rate." but I'm not sure how to do that. This one says you can use the "6E" file by "changing a few status bits" but doesn't explain which ones. There's countless more where people claim they have had 8192 baud comms working. Additionally, I have used a scan tool which seemed to use 8192baud, and was able to show fault codes (more than the "160" ADS file can do) so I know there's something more this ECU can send.

Can anyone unlock the mystery of getting more data from a 1986 ECU that it seems so many have done, but noone has posted about? I'm at wits end trying to get it to work
