Having problem logging data

Post by 86gn »

I am trying to connect to my 86 Buick Grand National and do some logging/monitoring. I get the "connected" msg at the bottom of the screen, but in the setup window I see the packet error counter going thru the roof, racking up errors, and in the actual sample rate, it looks like some wierd characters. I am using Moates autoprom (usb). I have the horiz. switch set away from the usb connector, and have tried all three positions on the vertical switch.

By the way, my snapon brick (mt2500) communicates fine with the car.

This is my first time trying to log data. I use the autoprom mainly as a chip burner and emulator on 93 F-Bodies.

Any ideas??

EDIT - forgot to mention that I tried the ads file on the TunerPro website and 87GN_v2_1.ads which I got from another user.

:D I got it working!!

Any way to get a little faster sample rate? It's running at .37 now, is that normal?

So I made the window smaller, and now the sample rate is up to .68

The computer is a year old Dell XPS with all the goodies.

Any way to get it any faster, or is that normal?

Where are you seeing this sample rat eindication? I haven't noticed it, and could be useful. :)

If you open up the setup box (where you tell it what ads file to use, logging file name, etc) it's in the upper right corner.

If your computer is that new, you shouldn't be seeing a dramatic change in sample rate based on window size.

.66hz is about as good as you'll get with the 160 baud stream. Even your snap-on is around that rate. :)

Thanks Mark, I've done a lot with aftermarket engine managment systems such as Motec, FAST, etc, and don't have much experience with the older (slower) processors. I just wanted to make sure everything was setup correctly :)

Im having the same problem, im getting about 2 error packets a second. I thought it was noise from my MSD unit so decided to power my cable with the laptops serial port instead of the car's battery. Still same problem.

Could it be the ADS file im using? If it wasnt right wouldnt it cause checksum errors? In its readme its a beta thats never been tested. I cant find any ADS files other than this one for my 8625 ecm. Just to be clear i think that ecm came on 93-95 chevy 1500s blazers and others.

ive double checked my cable several times i dont see anything wrong with it. Any ideas guys??

thanks a bunch!

Yes, it could be the ADS.

Yep thats what the problem was! I looked all over hell for a new ads file last night before i posted but i couldn't find any other one. I did some searching on thirdgen.org and found another one on moates' ftp server works.

0D A217 Engine v1_0.zip is the file name, its the first file in the data stream directory currently...

Im sure someone else is going to have the same question and have the same problem so heres where you can get a working ads file for the 16168625 ecm: The user and pass are moatesuser and moatespassword
http://www.moates.net/fileman

Neat program! Hopefully over the winter break ill be able to do my own chip. I really need to do it bad, even the mail order chip i have isnt so great. Oh well more fun this way!! 8)
