Chevy 60 degree ALDL problem

Post by fASTCAV29 »

Hey guys
I have been tuning for some time using GMPCM but they have disapeared so I moved to Tuner Pro RT. I have had a few issues but I think I am getting there except in the ALDL department. I am running a Chevy 3100 V6 on a 1227730 ECM and the $A1 mask its in a 1991 Cavalier Z24. I have tried using Freescan in the past but always failed to connect using a Mustach ALDL Cable. I tried different year model ecms and nothing worked. Now I'm using a Moates Xtream ALDL and tuner pro with the same results. I'm using the 1227730_V6_90-92.ads and I have tried others but this is the closest I've found. The only thing that will seem to connect is my trusty Snap on scanner but it has very limited data logging capabilities like 76 frames. I have the car running and driving well. However I road race it and I know there is more power there I just need to see what it is doing. So any help you can offer?

Just to let you know I found an A1 ads on the general forum " thanks Moonwell." But that hasn't worked either. I'll keep trying I figure its something stupid that I am missing

i would also like to know more on this situation. i am running the 7730 as well. but it is on a modified fiero harness. and the motor is the 3500 lx9.

i searched for your cable, but i came up with nothing. is it a usb aldl cable? i have the usb cable from aldlcable.com, and it wouldnt receive anything on my vista laptop or my xp one. the error count just skyrockets

Yes its USB and you can find it on moates.net. the mustach was rs 232 but didn't work either. my Z1 winbook sees the hardware when I plug into the aldl connector but won't communicate with the ECM. I should add that I am using the moates chip adapter also.

It's Mastach. http://www.mastach.com/

I've ran across a similar issue with a '7730 running $A1. The owner of the car has a Tech1, so we ended up using that, so that I wasn't tuning completly blind.

His aldlcables.com (USB) and my Moates ALDU1 ALDL Extreme cable would not connect. We only tried my Moates cable on my XP lappy, and his Mastach cable on his lappy, he had Win2K and then switched to XP, with the same result on both.

In this case, the lappies would lock up. I had a BSOD pop up a couple times. Other times it just sits on "connecting" for a while and then gives an connection error, if it doesn't lock up.

I haven't been able to figure out what's going on yet, but hope to at some point, since datalogging would be very useful.

He was able to connect with his lappy periodically when he firest tried, with Win2K and his ALDLcables.com cable.

i was starting to think it might have been a serial to usb problem, but im guessing it is not. it looks as if it is just a communication error with the 7730. maybe even that $A1 hex code.

the only solution i have found was to get the APU1 from moates since it is apparently the only thing that has worked for datalogging this ecm.

i say this because when my brother had the car before i bought if from him, a shop he had it dyno tuned at in VA used the moates APU1 setup with out any errors.

the only 2 schematics i have pulled up online that both have the max232 chip sound a little "iffy" to me. i have not found many reviews on it or the one that uses just two transistors and some resistors. not even sure of that transistor one would work with this ecm.

so it is looking like at this time and for a while the only thing that has been reported to successfully work is that APU1 from moates. im starting to save my cheese to get one of these. i can use it for many other things as well for tuning my new toy.

Wow I feel your pain that is almost exactly like my problems without the lock up. I was using the Mastach on an old SI winbook using 2000 with freescan and it did the no connect thing then I switched to a Z1 winbook with 2000 and tunerpro RT and the Xtream ALDL with no connect. I even tried freescan with the Xtream with the same result. It always sees the hardware but won't connect. Maybe we can try another ECM but I wouldn't know where to start. Someone on the 60v6 site said that I needed a newer model year 7730 but I have tried from 1990 to 1994 and non seem to change the results :?

A '7730 is a '7730, any revision would be a different service number.

The more I look into this, the more I think it's an ADS problem.
