PCMCIA COM Port Adaptor Card

Post by iroczinoz »

Has anyone been able to get a PCMCIA COM port adaptor card for laptops to work with TunerPro RT and AKM cable?

The thing is my set-up works fine on my old crappy laptop. No issues at all.

Use my New laptop the connection cannot be established. I get many errors along the way such as:

Cannot open COM port
COM port is not set to run at 8192 baud rate

Then fiddling around with setttings no errors except for CONNECTION FAILED.

The test hardware button says that Cable is found and functional. But it never works.

I thought a PCMCIA COM port would be the same as a standard COM port but obviosuly there must be a setting.

When I go into device manager I can auto detect the clock speed of the PCMCIA card it detects it at 16.00Mhz. Yet in the manual it says to set it at 1.852MHz and also to change the divide scaler.

Either way I change it around test a few combinations and nothing works. The COM port does show up in Device Manager!

Any Ideas?

Who makes the card? What os? What are your com port settings?

I'm in the same boat right now myself. Just got a new laptop, no com ports so I got a PCMCIA card. Cant connect. I can get my WBO2 logging, and the romulator works fine so far. Just no luck with Tunerpro. I can also use datamaster just fine also, it connects and logs.

What are the recommended settings for the com ports? baud rates, data parity, flow control the works. Gotta be something stupid if other loggers work fine

Also I'm running $58 code in a 7730 ecu might try the $8D code again just a s a test. The &58 has always been a bitch to connect

The Card was made by ST-LAB I sent it back. I just did not work. Even when I tetsed it with the ALDL test program from datamaster website it did not work at any baud rate at all.

In the end I gave up and bought the USB - ALDL converter from Craig Moates. Still waiting for it though

Just an FYI for the curious, got it all running just fine now. Played around with the FIFO settings and it connects and logs just fine now. Also I could not get the PCMCIA card to function at all under WIN98 but works just fine under xp on the new laptop.

Good to hear. I got a refund on my PCMCIA card and bought the ALDL USB converter from Moates.net. It works great.

I also tried stuffing around with the FIFO settings but never had any luck with the PCMCIA card.
