Adding BIT data items to ecu file

I was looking to add a few bits to the logging display but got caught up with the "word" the bits would be in.
The VATS bit in particular on the 730 8D ads file.
I'm not sure of the layout of the hex addresses to word.
Any simple directions you could provide would be great.
