In emulation mode it stays open.
But yeah it'd be nice to have it stay open in non-emulation too

I'm able to datalog and emulate simultaneously either with TP or TC...
The datalogging cable uses a different USB port, which doesn't interfere with TC.

The battery isn't something that can just be "replaced" like a flashlight.
Takes a bit of work and some mods, but it's relatively easy.
